I compared the Barska models with biometric scanners and this one with a simple keypad and chose this one. It arrived okay and was simple to program with the desired code. Basic operation is as easy as it gets: Close the door and touch the # key to lock it. Enter your code to open it. You can even press the # key when it's locked to get a battery level reading.I noticed areas that they have reduced some design-intended assembly steps to save manufacturing costs. This includes not using all of the screws to mount the battery holder (this was the same on 2 units). So, instead of mounting the battery holder with 4 screws and then one screw on the metal battery compartment cover, they install one screw in the battery holder and one on the door. The result is the battery holder can move around a little, but it's behind the metal door (inside the safe) so it's not... Much less chance of forgetting it if it stays the same. The door seems to be lightly spring loaded and has a tendency to open when unlocked, so it doesn't rattle when locked (good). I planned on placing this in a 14.25" deep cabinet and figured once I removed the 1/2" sheet rock behind it, I could attach it straight to the studs and the space would be 14.75" deep. Perfect, since the safe is suppose to be 14.5" deep...right? Wrong.
